I got this for my son for his second birthday. That was just over a year ago. By the time he was 2 1/2 he knew all of his letter sounds. He is now starting to spell some of the words while the toy spells them out! The battery life is great. I think that I have only replace them once maybe twice. This is a must toy for every child. Why it says for 3+ I have no idea. My son loved it at 2 and you could probably get it sooner even.

I bought my son alphabet town when he was 6 months old and he loved it then and he absolutely loves it even more now - at almost 3 years old! He has learned to spell, he has learned his numbers with the clock, he loves all the songs,he knows what a museum is...and much more! In fact, he plays with it a little TOO much, but obviously that's a good thing! The best [$] investment I've ever made! Now I look forward to my 8-month old using it - for which he's very interested in now!

My grandson started playing with this when he was about 15 months - absolutely loves it - now at 22 months - he is starting to recognize letters and tell his parents what they are! This is a great toy!
