We bought this product in 2008 for our daughter. She used it until she was 1.5 years old. When she was younger, we would set the music on with the timer, and she would fall asleep while the music was on. As she got older, she started pushing the button herself again and again until she fell asleep. She would also turn the music on by herself when she woke up in the middle of the night, until she went back to sleep. Now I started using this for my 5 month old son.

The '3-D graphics on the ceiling' feature eats batteries very fast, so we didn't use that feature.

The product makes some creaking sounds, but I realized that this bothers me more than it does my daughter/son (I think they don't even realize that those sounds are not supposed to be there). I once opened the product and unscrewed a couple of screws, and put some oil on them. And that actually helped with the creaking sounds for a while. Now they are back, but I won't bother to fix this again.

The music acts like a skipping CD when the battery levels are low.

The straps did not fit our crib. So, I attached the product to the crib with ribbons on it's 4 sides.

Overall, it really was a self-soother for my daughter, so I am very happy with this product.

Of all the musical night lights/projectors, this is my favorite. It has very good sound quality, and the tunes are so pleasant. The twinkling lights are beautiful, too. The only problem is, my 1-year-old loves it too much. The music soothes him, but the lights are too stimulating and keep him awake. It has an option to turn the lights off and just have the music, but it is so easy for him to push the button to turn them on again. I end up having to turn the whole thing off to get him to go to sleep. Thankfully, he doesn't know yet how to turn it back on again. He does love to push the button to find his favorite songs to play! This does make a wonderful daytime toy.

I just purchased this product for my 3 month old son. I was so excited to get home to put it in his crib. I was disappointed when I got home and the mounting straps didn't wrap around the rails on his crib. I think the product would work well if I could mount it. Is there away to get longer straps for someone that doesn't have the typical crib?

This is not just an ordinary toy this is something that is so soothing to not only your child but you too if you share a room with them, it is so comforting that will help you fall asleep as good as it does your child especially if you have sleeping problems for example not being able to sleep without sound this is perfect soothing music to fall asleep to.

My daughter bought this for my grandson when he was only two months old. I attached it to the bed and I pulled on it and It broke loose and tumbled to the mattress, this concerned me. I tried several times to reattach it and we decided that it could hurt the baby if it fell. I finally got out the directions again and realized that I had not followed the installation instructions as well as I had thought. The straps wrap over the rail and are inserted back through the back under the slot and then I made sure that the notches were securely through the straps. I pulled on it and It was very secure. My grandson is now eleven months old and he loves it. My daughter and I were surprised to see that he hits the button to set it to the song he wants and then lays down. This morning I went in and I could not get it to turn off. There was no music only grinding gears. Tonight, we went out and purchased another one, the last one on the shelf.(Thank Goodness) Later tonight I read the instructions with the new one and took the batteries out of the old one, waited a little while, replaced the batteries and It's operating correctly again.(It's still grinding,but it works) We now have a backup, yeah!!! We think this is a wonderful toy. If he wakes up during the night, It lulls him back to sleep. Thank You.

This is a life saver. My daughter who is going to be 5 in a few short weeks has used this since she was in her crib as an infant. While I do feel it eats cheap batteries, it is WELL worth it! She uses this EVERY night as part of her bedtime routine. Unfortunately it is now not working after almost 5 years of constant use. I am hoping my husband can fix it, if not, I will be buying another one!

My Daughter likes this. Its very soothing and keeps her content. When she was smaller it was the only thing that kept her from crying while in her crib. I recently re attached it to the crib and the strapes are very unstable. She is 9 months and pulled it right down. Its kind of scary to think about. She could have gotten hurt. Cause its heavy! I will however see if there is another way for me to attach it to the crib because she does enjoy it.

This product was recommended by a friend. She told me her son uses it every night to help fall asleep. At first I thought there was no way it would work- but after several weeks it did. By 5 months he was able to turn it on by himself. I put him down and he presses the button several times and then falls asleep. He loves looking at the lights. Make sure you turn it off when your baby falls asleep or it will turn on every time he bumps into it at night.
My only complaint is that I wish the projector ran longer. Also for some reason even after I turn it off it sometimes turns on again. It's tricky getting it to switch off.

The sound sensor on this product makes it worth it for me. It is also portable, so I use it when we spend the night somewhere. I have used it with 2 kids (out of 3). I bought my first one 4 years ago. I used it when my dd was an infant/toddler and I have been using it with my son (now 20 mo.) When my kids would wake up in the middle of the night crying, the music turns on and 9 times out of 10 they go back to sleep on their own (this was when they were a little bit "older" babies, NOT new borns). Yes, the gears on my old one started grinding, so, I bought a new one - The sound sensor on the new one does not "kick-in" as fast as my old one does when my toddler starts crying, therefore, I went back to using my old one (make sense?). When the music turns on using the sound sensor, it is just music, so the gears are not turning and there is no grinding sound. I have another music box (different brand) on the crib that I use when I need to manually turn the music on and off. My son sometimes plays with it when he wakes up in morning and likes to watch the lights on the ceiling (despite the grinding gears). I have not had any problems with the attachment straps and for us, it does not eat batteries. I use the new one I bought to take with us when we spend the night somewhere.

I purchased for my grandson and he was so amazed by the lights and sounds at 2 months and now he's 5 mo. and still loves it. He will lay in his crib and watch the ceiling for up to an hour. Has not made any grinding sounds or change the batteries yet.

We received one as a gift & our son LOVED it, but the gears started grinding very loudly after just a couple of months. So, we purchased another & now the gears have started grinding again after just a couple of weeks. At least it was on sale for [$]. I'm thinking that V-Tech may be aware of this problem which is why they reduced the price. The two best features of this product are the projection on the ceiling & that it turns on when your baby cries. It has put our son back to sleep many times, which we are thankful for, but it does not always come on when it should. If they fine tuned this product to work out the kinks it would be a much better product.

I love this crib soother. Bought it for my 3rd child, and decided to "upgrade" my toddler's crib soother, too. However, unfotunately she has a convertible crib and Vtech straps aren't long enough to attach this soother to a convertible crib. Rather than return it, I gave it to my mom to keep when the baby is at her house. I was disappointed it wouldn't work on the covertible crib, but still love the soother. Baby LOVES the soother too!

This has been a life saver. My baby sleeps through the night now. We put it in his crib around 12 months old. We have never believed in letting him "cry it out" and always went in to hold him. We would give it a second for the cry-activated feature to work, and sure enough, it would turn itself on when our baby cried out, and he would immediately stop crying and be soothed by the music and lights. Then the music turns off itself depending on the time you have it set to (3-5-10 min). We rarely have to go in there now. It was a miracle! Eventually, he just started sleeping without even crying out. Now, months later, he wakes up at night (no crying), rolls over and pushes the button himself to turn it on (he likes the nature sounds and even has favorite songs) and falls right back asleep within seconds. He loves it. We take it with us everywhere we go. I will use it for our next baby and have recommended it to friends. I wish we had tried it sooner. The only con is we have to change the batteries every 1-2 weeks but that is because he loves to turn it on and play with it, even during the day. Great toy!

I Have owned this product for less than two weeks, and I have to return it twice. It has broken down on me numerous times after changing the battries It worked for a few seconds then act like a skipping cd, the lights would flash but no lights or music and no lights - not work at all. I am very disappointed In this product. I wish I still had the receipt.

Our product is @ 13 mos. old. Lilly is 14 mos. and she loves hers. She'll wake up and start playing with. She has kicked the "tar" out of this thing for @ 7 mos. now and it has lasted. It does eat cheap batteries, but during day naps, we turn off projector to preserve them. It just started grinding gears @ 2 days ago, but for the price and time we've had it....."PERFECT". We are going to buy a new one ...the same one... for Emilee...due date of @ 5-01-2010. Thank you.........

I decided to buy this product in place of a regular mobile, because they cost the same, and you can only keep a mobile in until the baby starts sitting up. I also thought this was more interesting for the baby. Alyssa Grace is 5 weeks now, so we haven't been using it that long. The batteries are still working fine, and obviously she hasn't been pulling on the straps yet, but we pulled on it ourselves when we hung it up, and it was on pretty sturdy. The only thing that I really hate about this product is the lady's voice. It sounds so creepy, and each setting has her singing, and can't turn her off. And when its on the 10 minute setting, she comes on in the middle, so when the baby is almost asleep, all of the sudden it chimes, and she says it's lullaby time, and sings... waking the baby up. I would have made it to where you can turn the vocals off. But I really do like it overall.

I purchased the Soothe & Surprise Nature Light for Xmas last year and had to send it in for a replacement due to the creaking an screaching as the gears turned. Now the replacement is creaking and screaching and gets will not turn off like it should. My granddaugher loves the light but I am very disappointed in the quality and faulty design of the product.

I got the nature light as a shower gift and now recommend it to everyone with babies! What a great product! If my son is not quite sleeping when I put him down, I just turn it on and he watches it until he falls asleep. I seriously couldn't live without it!
The only con, well it's really not a con, but the lady singing the lullaby has a really deep voice its kinda weird, but my son loves it!!

We were looking for something to ease our 1 year-old into going to bed, in his crib, alone instead of waiting until he fell asleep to take him to bed. The 1st night we got the projector we used it and it worked beautifully. No screaming or crying to come back downstairs with us. He was immediately interested in how it worked, changing the songs, sounds and lights. He took to it right away and actually made bedtime much easier. Now when I say "it's bedtime", he's got his arms out for me to take him up! I willl say though, that the straps included to attach it to the crib are worthless. He was able to take them off himself with a tug, they fell off themselves as soon as we got it on and again, later on, they came undone while he was sleeping and it fell right down on top of him, NOT GOOD! So, we improvised with zip-ties and viola, stays-put! We haven't had the product for more than 2 weeks and the batteries already need replacing although he's asleep within the 10 minute setting.

Over-all, a great bedtime addition for the $ and other than battery life and the useless attachment straps, it's wonderful. Do make sure you have a safe way of attaching the projector to the crib before you leave it in there with baby alone, getting conked on the head with this thing while sleeping is, I'm sure, an unpleasant and potentially dangerous, issue.

My daughter's had this on her crib (now toddler bed) for 2 1/2 yrs now. We turn it on every night - it's part of her bedtime routine. Battery life seems decent, and can be extended if you turn off the projection light (the one that makes the pictures on the ceiling). The straps that came with it (to attach it to the side of the crib) did not fit on our crib, so I had to improvise my own way of attaching it. After so much use, you can hear it creaking a bit when it's on now, but overall it was a great value and my daughter still loves it.
